Our unique approach

Career learning that feels relevant, practical and exciting.

Romodels is designed to raise learner aspirations and self-confidence and enhance teacher confidence to incorporate careers into their lessons.

Rather than asking children to think about jobs in the abstract, Romodels gives them tangible stories and hands-on activities they can connect with. Learners are encouraged to explore, ask questions and see how their own interests, strengths and experiences could link to future possibilities.

Our approach follows three simple steps:

1

Discover

1_Discover.jpg

Learners are introduced to Romodels from a wide range of backgrounds, communities and industries, helping them discover careers they may not have seen, heard of or considered before.

These real-life stories support schools to challenge stereotypes, broaden learners’ understanding of the world of work and open up conversations about identity, aspiration and future possibilities. Pupils begin to recognise how their own interests, strengths and experiences can connect to different career pathways.

Romodels is designed to sit naturally within the Curriculum for Wales. The stories can support learning across the Areas of Learning and Experience, helping teachers make meaningful links between careers, skills and the wider curriculum.

2

Experience

Romodels turns career learning into something pupils can actively explore.

Through immersive, cross-curricular missions, learners investigate real-world challenges linked to different careers and sectors. These activities give pupils opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and understanding across all six AoLEs.

Teachers can shape the missions around their learners, school themes, progression steps and curriculum priorities. This gives schools the flexibility to use Romodels as part of topic work, enquiry-led learning, skills development or wider work around aspiration and equity.

The missions also support the four purposes by helping learners become ambitious and capable, enterprising and creative, ethical and informed, and healthy and confident as they explore the world beyond the classroom.

3

Believe

3_Believe.jpg

Career learning has the most impact when learners can connect it to themselves.

Through “How to Become…” resources, pupils are encouraged to think about their own strengths, interests, values and skills. They begin to see how what they enjoy now and what they are learning in school, could link to future pathways.

This stage supports learner progression by encouraging reflection, confidence and self-understanding. It helps pupils recognise the skills they are already building and consider how those skills may be useful in different contexts.

The aim is to challenge limiting beliefs early, widen learners’ sense of what is possible and help every child see that they can belong in a range of careers and futures.

Meet our Romodels

Our Romodels are real people working in careers across Wales and beyond, all from different backgrounds and with interesting and inspiring stories for learners to engage with so they discover careers they may never have heard of before.

Whether pupils are meeting Harry Wilson, Wales’ youngest-ever senior international footballer, Maire Gorman, a space weather forecaster protecting Earth’s technology, or Emily Jones, an award-winning children’s book illustrator, each Romodel helps them see how different interests can grow into exciting careers.

We will continue to add new and exciting Romodels to our platform meaning schools can keep returning to fresh, relevant examples that reflect the changing world of work and the many different routes children could take.

Frequently Asked Questions

Using Romodels

How can Romodels be used in my classroom? We recommend integrating Romodels regularly into everyday teaching to make career exploration a natural part of learning. This builds authenticity and helps aspirations grow over time. That said, you can also infuse Romodels into topic work or use it as a focused intervention with specific groups. However you choose to use it, we’re here to support and share what’s worked well in other schools.

Are Missions designed for a specific length of lesson or session? No. Romodels Missions are intentionally designed to be flexible, so you can adapt them to suit your class, your schedule, and your school’s priorities. You know your learners best. Each Mission is rich in authentic, cross-curricular opportunities. The teacher guidance includes links to the Curriculum for Wales, with references to Statements of What Matters and Descriptions of Learning, as well as a broad overview of how you could deliver each Mission in the classroom and suggested approaches. You have full autonomy to personalise the content to meet the needs of your learners.

Can Romodels be used in secondary schools? We’ve seen huge demand from secondary schools looking to support learners in Years 7, 8 and 9—especially as many careers’ resources are focused on older pupils. We believe some of our Progression Step 3 missions and activities are already a great fit for Year 7. We’re currently piloting one Romodel with secondary schools over the summer term and will be adding two more by September, shaped by their feedback. If you're interested in getting involved, we’d love to hear from you.

Are your resources available in Welsh? Yes, all our educational resources are available in both Welsh and English. For younger learners, videos are dubbed in Welsh wherever possible. We also actively seek Welsh-speaking Romodels so our Q&A videos can be filmed in both languages.

Do you offer bespoke packages? Yes — we’d be happy to discuss a bespoke package tailored to your school’s needs and development plan. Just email laura@romodels.org to tell us a little more about your school and what you’re looking for. We’ll then contact you to arrange a call and explore the best options together.

Content Development and support

What themes are you likely to add next year? In September 2026, we’re adding two new themes: Health and Cynefin (the Welsh concept of belonging and connection to place). We’re also continuing to gather ideas from schools through our Romodels Wishlist, helping us shape content that reflects what learners want to explore. In 2027, we’ll be launching new themes focused on Money and Children's rights and democracy.

How do you choose Romodels? Many of our Romodels are nominated by partner schools. We’re also launching a Library of Stories to collect mini videos from a wide range of real-life role models. Based on school demand, we actively seek funding to transform selected stories into fully developed Romodels—complete with age-appropriate videos, missions, learner activities, reflection resources, and ‘How to Become’ job descriptions. If you’d like to nominate a Romodel, please get in touch by emailing laura@romodels.org.

Do you offer training or onboarding for staff? Yes! We offer an engaging onboarding experience to help your team get the most out of Romodels. It covers how to navigate the platform, bring Romodels into your teaching, and learn from what’s worked in other schools. The type of training you receive depends on your subscription tier: Explorers have access to self-paced training videos that introduce the Romodels approach and offer practical ways to get started. Pioneers receive live online training for staff, helping teams explore how to use Romodels across the curriculum. Changemakers benefit from in-person staff training, delivered in your school to support deeper integration and collaboration.

Getting Started

What does a Romodels school subscription include? A Romodels school subscription gives all teaching staff and teaching assistants at your school access to the platform. We’ll ask you to provide a list of staff so we can set them up with individual accounts. Each subscription includes access to the Romodels and classroom resources available in your chosen tier. Explorer subscriptions last for 6 months, while Changemakers and Pioneers run for a full year.

How do staff access the platform once we're subscribed? Once we receive your staff list, each team member will be set up with their own account. They’ll receive an email invitation with login instructions and can start using the platform straight away.

What happens when our subscription ends? When your subscription ends, staff accounts will no longer have access to the Romodels platform. We’ll remind you before your access expires and offer easy renewal options so you can continue using the resources without interruption.

Let us inspire pupils across your school to dream bigger.
Let us enable the children in your life to create a future for themselves where any career is possible.
