About Romodels
Romodels is an innovative education charity (charity no. 1197650) partnering with schools across Wales. We open up a world of career possibilities for children aged 4 to 14, whatever their background or lived experience.
You can't be what you don't see. Through our bilingual Romodels Learning Portal, teachers bring diverse, real-life role models into the classroom. We call them Romodels. Each one shares their career journey and sets real-life missions inspired by their day-to-day work.
Our programme follows three steps:
-
Discover: age-appropriate videos bring each Romodel's life and career story to life.
-
Experience: hands-on, curriculum-linked missions let learners try the role for themselves.
-
Believe: mini job descriptions help learners connect classroom skills to real jobs.
We have inspired over 15,000 learners across Wales to believe "that could be me!"
The role
We are looking for experienced curriculum writers to create the real-life missions at the heart of our Romodels resources. You will turn a Romodel's story and working day into learning that teachers can pick up and use straight away. This role is for primary writers only, covering Progression Steps 1 to 3.
What you'll do
-
Research and apply best practice in curriculum design aligned to the Curriculum for Wales, with a strong focus on integrated, cross-curricular learning for primary learners.
-
Write learner missions in the first person, in the Romodel's own voice, with teacher guides and reflection activities that are practical, engaging and easy to deliver in busy primary classrooms.
-
Create cross-curricular missions that link learning across the Areas of Learning and Experience, show how knowledge and skills are used beyond the classroom, and are differentiated for each Progression Step.
-
Create age-appropriate mini job descriptions that help primary learners understand who does a job, what they do, and how their classroom learning links to future careers.
-
Take part in peer review with other Romodels curriculum writers: review colleagues' resources against the Curriculum for Wales and Romodels standards, give clear and constructive feedback, and act on feedback on your own work.
-
Work with our Romodels and partners so that content reflects real people, real roles and diverse pathways.
-
Use technology and creative teaching approaches to bring the Discover, Experience, Believe journey to life for learners.
-
Produce resources that consistently follow Romodels brand guidelines, tone of voice and visual identity.
What we're looking for
Essential
-
Experience as a primary school teacher.
-
A deep understanding of the Curriculum for Wales at primary level, including the Four Purposes, Areas of Learning and Experience, Progression Steps 1 to 3, and integral and cross-curricular skills.
-
Proven experience of writing and designing engaging learner-facing content and clear, supportive guidance for primary teachers.
-
The ability to differentiate resources by Progression Step, so each mission is pitched right for learners at that stage.
-
Confidence using PowerPoint and other visual tools to create clear, engaging and visually appealing resources.
-
Comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback as part of a peer review process.
-
Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce consistently polished resources.
Desirable
-
Welsh language skills. The ability to write or review resources in Welsh would be a real asset, as our platform is bilingual.
-
Experience of teaching in a school in Wales.
-
Experience of using digital or AI tools to support resource creation.
How it works
-
Self-employed freelance role. You will be responsible for your own tax and National Insurance.
-
All work created remains the intellectual property of Romodels.
-
£200 per day.
-
On average, three days of work per Romodel, depending on demand.
-
Flexible working: you choose when to work, as long as you meet the agreed turnaround for each Romodel.
-
You will need to be available to work during term time, not only in half terms and school holidays.
-
Remote working, with occasional online meetings with the Romodels team.
-
Be part of a small, supportive team of curriculum writers who share ideas and peer review each other's work.
-
Contribute to a growing, mission-led education charity making a measurable impact across Wales.
